i watched the girl with the dragon tattoo with my mother today. not exactly a movie you’d wanna see with your mother, but i had watched it before, so i slipped away inconspicuously to buy popcorn and pepsi while the heavier scenes were on. after the movie i was so excited that she had seen it (babbling on and on about the oscars and rooney and fincher and all the trivia i apparently know about it) that she was able to point out two things about my personality:

• i can’t just see a movie and like it. i have to see the movie, read the book, research it on the internet, look up the actors, obsessively follow the criticism, etc.
• i had been doing it since i was ten and she innocently gave me a copy of “harry potter and the philosopher’s stone”.

and well.

that’s fucking accurate. and i had noticed it before. i just never took it as a “strange” thing about me. she kind of does.
